How to Pack More Than Your Bikini in a Carryon

How to Pack More Than Your Bikini in a Carryon

You are lugging the enormous bag under the sun, sweat dripping down your face even though the day isn’t that hot. It is just that crazy, enormous bag. Vacation would be beautiful and a breeze if only you didn’t have so much luggage. Really, it seems like you packed everything but the kitchen sink. For a beach vacation.

Wouldn’t it be lovely if you could breeze through airports and easily lift your luggage in and out of cars, like the business travelers you see swishing past you in a heavenly scented cloud? Well, guess what? You can! And we are here to show you how you can pack everything you need in just a carryon for a lovely, long weekend vacation here with us in Sunset Beach. All you have to do is use the three R’s that follow:

Reduce

Reduce

The hardest step in fitting all of your desired belongings in a carryon bag for vacation is reducing the amount of items that you pack. However, it will help you the most out of all three of these steps.

So, here are a few questions for you to help you reduce your packing list down to the essentials:

  • Did you bring this on your last vacation, and if so, did you use it? If the answer is no, then don’t bring it.
  • Are you bringing that shirt "just in case”, or are you positive that you will wear it?
  • Will you really use that computer, read all three of those books, and wrap up in that blanket?

Now, it is time to plan out your outfits instead of just throwing in what you think looks like enough random clothes.

Reuse

Reuse

The next step in fitting all of your vacation necessities into a svelte carryon is to plan on reusing some of the things you pack. For example, choose attractive sandals that you can walk on the beach in as well as go to dinner in that same night. Bring a pair of pants or shorts that you can wear with a couple different shirts on a couple different days. Pack neutral colored clothing so that you can make the same outfit look completely different on two different days with some show-stopping accessories. After all, accessories take up less room in a suitcase than clothes do!

We all know about TSA’s regulations for the size of liquids that we are allowed to have in our carryons. Even if you are driving to your vacation destination (which is Sunset Beach, of course!) you should consider resizing your toiletries for space reasons. Plus, look for a small brush, a thin toothbrush to travel with, and even thin shoes (fabric shoes or sandals rather than hightops or leather shoes).

When the process of travel is easy, then it is much more likely that you will actually take a vacation. And it is certainly more likely that you will enjoy your vacation that you take. So, the next time you get ready to travel, try following these packing tips and just bring a carryon for each member of your family! Make vacation a breeze. Like it should be.
